Coffin of the Chantress Tamaket

Tamaket sang in the temple of Amun, and her coffin sings still. Every centimetre of sycamore is crowded with gods, spells and solar boats — a complete theology painted in red, blue and gold so she would never travel the afterlife unaccompanied.

Look for the winged scarab on the chest, pushing the sun exactly as it pushes the coffin’s owner into the next morning. Our conservators stabilised the gesso in 2019; the varnish you see is ancient.
