Golden Mask of Tutankhamun
Eleven kilograms of gold, inlaid with lapis and carnelian, made to turn a nineteen-year-old king into an eternal god. The striped nemes headdress, the false beard, the protective vulture and cobra — every element is a spell you can wear.
This is the centrepiece of our autumn exhibition, shown in a dedicated chamber with timed entry. Book ahead on weekends; weekday mornings are quietest.
