About the Exhibition
Words of Power on Papyrus
No book was ever more practical: 192 spells to get you through death. The Book of the Dead gathers our finest papyri — including a twelve-metre scroll — in a low-light room that protects the ink.
Weighings of the heart, fields of reeds, demons with knives and kind-faced guides: each vignette is translated on the wall beside it, spell by spell.
The Weighing of the Heart
Spell 125, enlarged to wall size: watch the heart weighed against a feather while Thoth records the result.
Scribes & Pigments
Rush pens, cakes of carbon black and red ochre, and a scribe’s palette you can handle — the toolkit behind the scrolls.
Your Name in Hieroglyphs
Weekend workshops in the Learning Lab teach you to write your own name the way Ani’s scribe wrote his.
